Like most have said, you should be able to avoid this portage by taking some rocky narrows. There was even enough water for us to take with unloaded canoes in September. Be prepared to have one person get out to help line, otherwise, it is great practice for working on your paddling maneuvers! (1/5 for the portage...since it really isn't needed)

Our Fisher map was marked incorrectly (at time of this post, this site also has it incorrectly positioned). The portage trail is actually in the southwest corner of the NORTH bay on Skipper. We tried the south bay first, and the water was absolutely high enough to float through to Little Rush without the portage, however there was a downed tree blocking the connection. Had we not had four kids with us, we would have simply gone over the tree, but we opted for the safer portage route.

The water levels are low and so it was tough pulling through here, but no portage was required.

It was a little tight getting around a few of the boulders but, we were able to paddle right through. my guess is that the portage will only be needed during extremely dry periods, or to avoid minor scratches on canoes or wet feet when lining.

When we were here it was just a pull over.

Portage would be over a beaver dam, but water level was much higher than the dam. No need to portage.
