BWCA Portage 176 (Brule to Wench)

Beautiful hike up to wench. I recommend. Great landing at the top, Almost feel like one could camp there.........

This end of Brule is very scenic in general, and we visited in a white out snowstorm which enhanced the features of the rocks. We took this portage for fun and hiked up. Yes it has tough footing and some down trees, but I didn't think it was that terribly difficult. It will challenge, but a lake such as Wench deserves a little admission fee. Gorgeous area.

I explored this portage without my canoe out of curiosity. Hardest portage I have seen or can imagine. Multiple trees to climb over and around. I felt like I was walking the run-off stream rather than a trail at times and actually lost the trail twice. I came out on Wench just to the right of the actual landing. Pretty lake to view from the shore, but I was glad I didn't try to bring my canoe.

Elevated portage into Wench. Many Many Many blow downs to portage around and over as there was a recent wind event in the area.

Starts at the base of the huge rockslide. Follows a small creek bed up to Wench. Steep & rocky.
