This is a wonderful portage. very pretty on both ends. Awesome beach on the SW. plan a stop.

I love using this portage shortcut instead of paddling around. The Karl side is steep but the Long Island end is a nice beach.

McKenzie Map shows this portage beginning in the campsite just to the north on the Karl Lake side. Paddle Planer has it in the correct location.

Large sandy beach landing on the Long Island side. Nice path through the woods, although there's a bit of elevation. Not a bad portage and better than paddling all the way around through Karl.

Not a bad portage and well worth it to avoid going around Karl Lake down to the mid to eastern side of Long Island Lake. Both landings were good but steep incline on the Karl Lake side.

Steep for the first few steps from Karl, but not hard after that and can save you a long paddle. Nice landing at Long Island Lake.

Sandy beach landing on the Long Island side, then a tight squeeze (for the canoe) through a couple of decent sized pines. The trail climbs then drops down to a rocky landing on the Karl side.
