Huge red pines on rocky shore suggests classic BWCA site, but a closer look reveals some problems. A narrow slot provides for nose-in landing. Alternatively, alongside landing is feasible if rocks are not slippery. Any more than one canoe have to be lugged to the open and sunny clearing. There is a nice view down the lake, but it could be buggy unless there is a NE to SE wind. At the back of the clearing, there is a wonderful huge glacial erratic that is 5 ' long and 4' high for dish washing. It includes a "bench" for seating while eating. Curiously, the grate is placed on top of a ledge that could have provided wind protection. Seating is 4 log, but some are deteriorated. The branches of the pines in the clearing are too high to throw a rope over. Tarp rigging trees are plentiful. Two tents could be pitched in the grass behind the kitchen, and 2 more in front and back of the huge rock. The latrine is a short ways up the hill, but hard to find because other trails look more traveled.

Nice enough site, though as others have mentioned the tent pads are iffy...the first is right by the kitchen area, the second is rocky and uneven. The third is further back and really small. But nice mature trees, good view and spacious. We could hear the motors from the tow boats running up from Moose.

The good: nice view down Birch, wonderful sunrise, and we enjoyed seeing the canoes pass by. Nice kitchen area just above the water with wide open lake view. The site is actually set back a bit in a bay just north of the main canoeing path, so we got more privacy than we expected without the passing canoes getting close to us. The bad: For setting your tents, you have a choice between an uneven sloped area with lots of rocks and roots, or a grassy area that turns into a deep puddle when it rains. There's really no natural tent pad here!

Good site with one really good tent pad - others were not level or may serve difficult to set up. Nice view of Birch with a wonderful breeze to keep away mosquitoes. Bear bag was easy to hang.
